Steps to use Touch Calendar

Go to ‘Menu’ and ‘Touch Calendar’ > Select the date > Click on ‘Tap to add appointment’ > Key in subject > Key in location > Key in start and end date > Select ‘Occurs’ to change number of occurrences > Set appropriate reminder/(s) > Click on ‘Done

Task List

If you tend to forget a task easily, OMNIA II allows you to create a task list and reminds you of the tasks created at your preset timings.

Steps to create task in Task List

Go to ‘Menu’ > Tasks > Click on ‘Menu’ > Select ‘New Task’ > Key in the info you need > Click ‘Ok’

Task switcher

The handset also has a neat task manager with cool graphics. It displays a scrollable list of thumbnails representing the programs running currently. You can choose to end a task or switch from task to task.

Audio note

Need a voice recorder to record a seminar? Samsung OMNIA II allows you to record audio notes in various formats such as MP3, AMR and WAV. We can save the audio note in either the phone memory or in the microSD card. The larger the available memory size, the longer the length of the audio note can be recorded. We can even sort the audio note according to name, date and size.

3D media Cube

OMNIA II has a dedicated button to call up multimedia features – 3D Media Cube. The 3D Media Cube is an intuitive six-sided cube which you rotate on screen, with just a flick of your thumb, to give you quick and easy access to Photos, Music player, Video player, Contacts, Games and web browser.

Steps to access 3D Media Cube

Press and hold the button located on the right of the camera activation button > Rotate 3D Media cube and select desired feature > Proceed to use feature

Camera

Equipped with a 5Megapixel camera, OMNIA II has built-in advance photography features such as Face Detection, Smile Shot, Advance Shake Reduction, Macro mode, up to ISO 400, dual power LED flash, and Wide Dynamic Range. There are various shooting modes - Continuous Shot, Mosaic Shot, Panorama Shot, Action Shot and various Scene modes. With such powerful features, there is no need to carry around an additional digital camera or SLR.

OMNIA II allows video captures of up to 720 x 480 resolution. We can use the flash when taking video at night e.g. attending an outdoor party with low lighting. Format recorded will be in Mpeg4 and 3gp - 2 common video formats.

FM Radio

Q. Can I record the songs when listening to FM Radio?

A. Yes you can. Just follow the steps in the video.

Steps to using RM Radio

‘Menu’ > ‘FM Radio’ > ‘Scan’ and ‘Yes’ to search for available frequencies > Select ‘Done’ when scan is complete > Select channel and ‘Done’ > Click on the ‘+’ signs to add favourite channels

To delete favourite channel setting, go to ‘Menu’ > ‘Delete Favourite’ > Select the channel to be deleted and ‘Done’.

To record a song while listening to the radio, go to ‘Menu’ > select ‘Record’ > ‘Stop’ as appropriate. To locate song recorded, go to ‘Start’ and ‘File Explorer’ > ‘My Storage’ > ‘FM Radio’ folder to locate song.

Steps to using Podcast

To download podcast feed, go to ‘Menu’ > ‘Podcast’ > ‘Menu’ again and ‘Search Podcast’ to key in feed you wish to download > select feed and ‘Add’.

To listen to downloaded podcasts, go to ‘Start’ > ‘File Explorer’ > ‘My Documents’ > ‘Podcast’ and select the desired, downloaded podcast.

Go to ‘File Manager’ > Select the song/(s) you like > Cut and paste the file/(s) in My Storage > Exit ‘File Manager’ > Click on ‘Start’ > Go to ‘Settings’ > Select ‘Sound & Notifications’ > Choose ‘Notifications’ > Select ‘Incoming Call Tone' > Select the ringtone that you had earlier pasted in My Storage > Select ‘New Text Message’ > Check ‘Play sound’ box > Choose the song for your message tone > Click ‘Ok’

*Please note that all Windows Mobile devices will play full length of song clip for sms and other notification sounds. As such, do edit the clip with PC Studio.

RSS Reader

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Reader is a program to read RSS and Atom news feeds.
It collects news in the background when activated and alerts with a little popup in the system tray when there is a new message. You can click on the news headline to read a short description of the news or open the original news web page in an RSS Reader browser or default browser window.

*Please note that data charges apply when RSS Reader pulls the news feeds.

Go to ‘Menu’ > RSS Reader > Click on ‘All Feeds’ > Menu > Update Mode > Check on the news feeds you would like to update > Click on ‘Done’ and proceed to read the news

 


No Data

“No data” is a 3rd party application that lists your GPRS connections, and allows you to disable them so that they would not be activated accidentally. It’s very useful for those who only wish to restrict their Internet access to Wi-Fi and want to prevent accidentally switching the network to GPRS.

Samsung OMNIA II is a full touch Windows Mobile device (updateable to WM6.5) with a large 3.7” WVGA AMOLED screen. Q. Does Samsung OMNIA II support Chinese?

A. Samsung OMNIA II does support Chinese, limited to just viewing at this current moment. We hope to introduce Chinese input in the next software upgrade. So stay tuned!  If you can’t wait, the option is to download 3rd party software. Before doing this, please bear in mind that Samsung will not provide any technical support for 3rd party software and that installation should be done at your own risk.

Monster Chinese and CE Star seem to work pretty well as noted from the forums.

Q. Does OMNIA II come with threaded SMS?

A. Samsung OMNIA II does not support threaded SMS currently. If you need threaded SMS, you will need to use 3rd party software.

For Threaded SMS:

Visit http://freewareppc.com/communication/smssettings.shtml, download SMS Settings 0.1.CAB, save the file into the device under “My Storage”.

Q. I wish to block off data connection on my OMNIA II. How do I do it?

A. Do check that all your connections are OFF to ensure that there are no unwanted data connections running in the background. If you wish to block off data connection entirely, you would need to download 3rd party software MoDaCo NoData.

A. Yes. OMNIA II is updateable to Windows Mobile® 6.5. We will have an online software upgrade site once it is ready. You’d be the first to know!

 

Q. Can Samsung Touch Wiz UI be disabled?

A. Yes, you can. Just follow the steps in the video.

 

Disable TouchWiz UI

Steps to disable TouchWiz UI

Go to ‘Start’ > ‘Settings’ > Go to ‘Today’ > Select ‘Windows Mobile Green’ > Click on ‘Items’ > Un-check ‘Samsung Widgets Plus’ > Select the applications that you wish to display on the Main Home Screen > Click ok > Yes to reboot Personally, I do prefer to use the Touch Wiz UI. It really allows me to do a lot of customization. For example, I can customize my favourite programmes or features on the menu or on the idle screen.

 

TouchWiz UI

The part I like about Samsung TouchWiz UI in OMNIA II is that it allows me to download widgets. I can use the Widget Wap Gallery (More Widgets) to download games and applications.

*Please note that there are operator-specific widgets which are pre-loaded into your OMNIA II when you purchase it from SingTel, M1 and StarHub.


For example:

M1 customers will get HungryGoWhere widget, which is a restaurant guide that will fulfill your taste buds by finding the hottest food places in town!

Singtel customers will get inSing.com, a one-stop destination that provides all the essential day-to-day information as well as comprehensive up-to-date coverage on local, international and entertainment news, events listings, food reviews and shopping deals

Starhub customers will get StarHub TV on Mobile. Starhub TV on Mobile brings your TV viewing experience onto your mobile phone anytime anywhere watching your favourite soccer matches, movies and many more.

*Please remember to install the application under ‘Storage Card’, which is the memory card or copy all the AGIS application files to your phone memory.

Q. Why does my AGIS navigation take more than 5mins to load?

A. By enabling <Xtra functions>, the GPS should load faster.

Go to ‘Menu’ > Settings > General Settings > GPS > XTRA > Enable XTRA Server > Download XTRA Data > Done
